GLACIAL LAGOON JÖKULSARLON

The Jökulsarlon glacial lagoon is one of Iceland's other favourite places to visit. Like the other lagoons on the island, this one was formed by retreating glaciers from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the melting of the glacier, the lagoon is gradually expanding. It is now about 8 km from the ocean. With a depth of over 283 m, the glacial lagoon is considered the deepest lake in Iceland.

PARKING

There is a gravel parking lot next to the lagoon, which is charged from summer 2023. Payment is also collected at the Diamond Beach car park, however, you only need to pay at one location Most of the day you can park comfortably here, however, in the summer season, during the exposed hours around lunchtime, parking can be a problem. However, there are two other large car parks on the other side of the road where you can park (at Diamond Beach).

You will also find free toilets, a bistro or fast food stalls by the lagoon.

DIAMOND BEACH

Diamond Beach is located in close proximity to the Jökulsarlon glacial lagoon. It is a black beach with shiny ice fragments of various sizes washed ashore. You will have the best experience in sunny weather, when the crystal-clear chunks of ice take on a different dimension.

PARKING

As with the glacier lagoon, there is a spacious car park, which is chargeable from summer 2023.

GLACIAL LAGOON FJALLSARLON

The glacial lagoon of Fjallsarlon is only 10 km from the more famous Jökulsarlon lagoon. It is a lagoon full of ice bushes, each of which has a specific shape and size. The lagoon is much smaller and less well-known than the popular Jökullsarlon, but there are also fewer tourists.

CRUISE ON THE LAGOON

The lagoon cruise is operated by Iceberg Boat Tours, which provides several types of lagoon cruises. One of them is the BOAT TOUR CLASSIC, which lasts about 45 minutes and you pay 9 300 ISK for it. You will sail past the ice bushes all the way to the iceberg. All information and booking can be found at https://fjallsarlon.is/iceberg-boat-tours/

The lagoon has free parking, a bistro and pay toilets.

SKAFTAFELLSJÖKULL GLACIER

The glacier is still a 35-minute walk (approx. 1.6 km) from the main car park. It is also possible to use the trail that also leads to the Svartifoss waterfall. It is about 8 km long.

PARKING

There is a paid parking lot with toilets and refreshments about 1.5 km away. You can pay at a parking meter or via the Parka app. Attention! When paying, it is necessary to enter your plate number correctly, as the entrance and exit are monitored by an automatic camera system.
